Farhana Haque Nila, Senior Reporter, News Now Bangla.Com, Dhaka. Farhana is an award-winning multimedia journalist who has written about issues such as child brides, workplace sexual harassment and the mistreatment of women journalists in Bangladesh during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her interests are writing and photography.

2021

Md Amdadul Haq, Senior Reporter, Channel 24, Chittagong. Amdadul is an award-winning TV journalist who has focused on the environment and climate change, and made a mark reporting on corruption. He is concerned about water shortages and wastage in Chittagong, Bangladesh’s commercial capital. His interests are photography, travelling, reading and movies.

2018

Adil Sakhawat is a reporter with the Dhaka Tribune and writes regularly on migration, refugees and extremism in Bangladesh. His AJF research project is on the possible radicalisation of Rohingya refugees. While in Singapore he hopes to gain an understanding of the ASEAN perspective on the Rohingya crisis. Adil enjoys music, bike racing, and table tennis as well as mobile photography and travelling.

2016

M Abul Kalam Azad. Senior Reporter, The Daily Star, Dhaka. A seasoned journalist who has been writing stories on the tough topic of rising Islamic extremism in Bangladesh. The recent arrest and deportation of more than two dozen radicalised Bangladeshis in Singapore makes his research proposal to examine the radicalisation of Bangladeshi migrant workers in Singapore and Malaysia both timely and worthwhile.

2017

Mazadul Noyon is a special correspondent with Banglanews24.com in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He started in print journalism before moving to the online-only Banglanews24.com in 2011. He has won awards for reporting on a case of child murders in 2016 and on Bangladeshi migrant workers. While in Singapore, Noyon wants to develop a set of media guidelines for reporting terrorism.

Kamran Reza Chowdhury. Special Corespondent with newsnextbd.com. Kamran is also General Secretary of the Bangladesh Parliament Journalists’ Association and a founder of the Bangladesh Association of Professional Journalists. He wants to research human trafficking of Bangladeshis.

Md Khadimul Islam. A Dhaka-based political journalist with New Age (English) covering the activities of the Awami League. Serves as general secretary of the Reporters’ Forum for Elections and Democracy, a professional body. Plans to research media coverage of climate change.

Munima Sultana. An editorial assistant and feature writer at The Financial Express (English), Dhaka. Plans to research the media adjusting to the internet.
